ethical fashion explained

What is ethical fashion? At nu we include fairly traded, organic, recycled and vintage, locally produced and sustainable clothes in our magazine. Here's why...

nu likes fair trade fashion designers as they pay their workers a fair wage.
We clearly state which items have the FAIRTRADE mark, as they have been through the accreditation process and invest in the communities they work with. We also feature producers that have a fair trade policy and use sweatshop-free production, as many smaller clothing companies cannot afford to go through the accreditation process. nu likes organic clothes as they are produced using the minimum amount of toxis chemicals.
Using pesticides to manufacture and colour garments is extremely harmful workers, resulting in respiratory and other health problems. The chemicals used in normal clothes production (petrochemicals) can also severely harm the environment. We'd rather buy organic! Read more at: www.soilassociation.org

nu likes recycled clothing as designers reuse material that has already been produced.
Our favourite designers save material and clothes from the ever-growing landfill sites and make original, unique designs with it. Vintage clothes are also considered to be recycled garments.

nu likes locally produced clothes as they are made in the UK.
We're supporting local business, workers get a fair wage and the clothes don't have to travel very far, which can't be bad for the environment either!

nu likes sustainable fashion as it uses less energy to produce.
Clothes can be made from materials that are more environmentally friendly to produce, as well as clothes made using a sustainable design that can be worn in different ways and for longer periods of time.
